Hanzo GUI

One Guide

How to set up Hanzo GUI with One

One is a React framework for web, iOS, and Android built on Vite. It offers seamless cross-platform development and integrates well with Hanzo GUI.

Install

First, create a new One project:

npx one

Add Hanzo GUI and its dependencies:

yarn add @hanzo/gui @hanzogui/config

Configuration

Create a gui.config.ts file in your project root:

import { defaultConfig } from '@hanzogui/config/v5'
import { createGui } from '@hanzo/gui'

const guiConfig = createGui(defaultConfig)

export default guiConfig

// this is important!
export type Conf = typeof guiConfig

declare module '@hanzo/gui' {
  interface GuiCustomConfig extends Conf {}
}

Update your vite.config.ts:

import { one } from 'one/vite'
import { guiPlugin } from '@hanzogui/vite-plugin'
import type { UserConfig } from 'vite'

export default {
  plugins: [
    one({
      web: {
        defaultRenderMode: 'ssg',
      },
    }),
    guiPlugin({
      config: './gui.config.ts',
      components: ['@hanzo/gui'],
    }),
  ],

  // Vite 6 style configuration
  ssr: {
    noExternal: true,
  },

  optimizeDeps: {
    include: ['@hanzogui/core', '@hanzogui/config'],
  },

  build: {
    cssTarget: 'safari15',
  },
} satisfies UserConfig

Setup Hanzo GUI Provider

Update your root layout file (typically app/_layout.tsx):

import { GuiProvider } from '@hanzo/gui'
import { Slot } from 'one'
import config from '../gui.config'

export default function Layout() {
  return (
    <GuiProvider config={config}>
      <Slot />
    </GuiProvider>
  )
}

Usage

Now you can use Hanzo GUI components in your One app:

import { Button, Text, YStack } from '@hanzo/gui'

export default function Home() {
  return (
    <YStack f={1} jc="center" ai="center" p="$4" gap="$4">
      <Text fontSize="$6">Welcome to Hanzo GUI with One!</Text>
      <Button>Click me</Button>
    </YStack>
  )
}

Themes

To support light and dark modes, use One's built-in color scheme support along with Hanzo GUI's theming system. Update your root layout:

import { GuiProvider, Theme } from '@hanzo/gui'
import { Slot } from 'one'
import { useColorScheme } from 'react-native'
import config from '../gui.config'

export default function Layout() {
  const colorScheme = useColorScheme()

  return (
    <GuiProvider config={config} defaultTheme={colorScheme}>
      <Theme name={colorScheme}>
        <Slot />
      </Theme>
    </GuiProvider>
  )
}

Performance

For better performance, use the outputCSS option in the Hanzo GUI Vite plugin:

guiPlugin({
  config: './gui.config.ts',
  components: ['@hanzo/gui'],
  outputCSS: process.env.NODE_ENV === 'production' ? './public/gui.generated.css' : null,
})

Then import the CSS in your root layout:

import '../public/gui.generated.css'
// ... rest of your imports and component

Next Steps

You now have Hanzo GUI set up with One. Start building your cross-platform app using Hanzo GUI's styling system and One's seamless development experience.
